How long is a therapy session?
Individual sessions take place for 50 minutes, and groups take place for 90 minutes.
We will usually have a regular time slot which stays the same each week so that the space feels consistent for you.
Where does therapy take place?
Therapy can take place in-person in Redhill (Surrey), or online with Microsoft Teams.
What is the difference between Pyschotherapy and Art Psychotherapy?
Pyschotherapy primarily uses talking to explore your challenges, thoughts, feelings and experiences. Art psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy which includes an additional option to use art making alongside talking. Art making can add another dimension of reflection to the therapeutic work if things feel challenging to articulate with words alone. You don't need to be certain beforehand about whether you'd like to explore psychotherapy or art psychotherapy, as the two can blend into one another where art making may not necessarily be used each session.
In the UK, the title 'psychotherapist' is not a legally protected or regulated title meaning anyone can call themselves a psychotherapist, which is why it is so important to check the accreditiation of your therapist.
'Art Psychotherapist' is a regulated title in the UK, meaning you cannot legally practice as an art psychotherapist without being registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
How can therapy take place online?
I will ask for you to ensure that you have a private and confidential space for the therapy to take place.
There are additional things to consider when therapy takes place online, such as wifi connection and access to local support services if you are geographically based far away from me. We will address these during the assessment.
If you are engaging in art psychotherapy online, you will need to provide your own art materials and ensure that you have a space to safely and confidentially store your artworks.
What can I expect during therapy?
We can have a free 15 minute phone call to discuss what you are looking for. If you would like to go ahead, the first session will take the form of an assessment to gather more information and explore how we can work together.
It takes time to build trust and feelings of safety within the therapy, and it is normal to feel apprehensive about starting.
